Cervical Cancer
Cervical cancer is the second most common cancer among Malaysian women. A woman can lose up to 26 years of life when she has cervical cancer.
What causes Cervical Cancer?
Cervical cancer is the abnormal cell growth in the cervix. Cervical cancer is primarily caused by the human papillomavirus (HPV). If the immune system does not clear up the infection, HPV infection can lead abnormal cell growth and eventually cervical cancer in women.
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports that 80% of women who have reached 50 years would have been affected by HPV and almost 20% of them would have reached a chronic stage, resulting in cervical cancer.

It is worthwhile to note that HPV can affect both women and men. It is common that most sexually active people would be infected with HPV at least once in their lifetime. HPV transmission can happen with any kind of genital contact with someone who has HPV, not necessarily sexual intercourse.
Not only cervical cancer, HPV also causes other diseases in both men and women:

MEN – Genital Warts
